It's been ten years since the Dark Days have ended. Panem is in disarray. The Capitol remains in control of each district, thriving on the food and items the districts labor to produce. All thought of rebellion has been smothered, as the dark shadow of the Hunger Games towers over everyone. Every year, at what is known as the Reaping, a boy and girl from the ages twelve to eighteen are chosen from each of the twelve remaining districts. They are taken to the Capitol, train under a surviving tribute called a mentor, and attempt to make an impression on possible sponsors. They are dressed up by a district-representing prep team, and supervised by the Capitol's president, Elemanai Nimda, and thrown into an arena personalized by several gamemakers. The objective of the games? Staying alive.
Winning means fame and fortune, losing means certain death.
The Hunger Games have begun.
